“Life is what happens to us
when we are busy making other plans.”
Have courage
Diseases are uniquely destructive not only physically but also psychologically. The emotional distress that accompanies the diseases are generally as debilitating as the illness itself. When you first get diagnosed for a major disease, a rush of emotions such as anger, fear, sadness, etc may surge through you. You could go also through a sort of rage, sense of injustice and self pity. You could even start hating all healthy people. You may at times believe that you are perhaps being punished for something. You may not be sure why God has chosen you for this punishment.
If you lose your car keys it is not that God is punishing you. Similarly if you lose your health it is not that God is punishing you.
Lessons that diseases give
Diseases are given to us give certain messages and lessons. The chief lessons that diseases give us are:
· You have now a new companion who would leave you only after changing you.
· All the problems in your life are your teachers. The disease is no exception.
· Pains in life are not inflicted on us by anyone else, but by ourselves alone
· When difficulties arise they last only for a brief period and then things get better. There are a lot of people to whom their diseases remain only a memory. Therefore the patients of any disease need not feel hopeless or helpless
· Good is manifested from every experience that comes into our lives. There is a purpose for everything. Life brings us new and sometimes difficult challenges. The things we go through make us stronger. You gain strength, courage and confidence by each experience.
· Chance of recovery always exists. There is no such thing as ‘no chance’.
· Disease is not a death sentence to you and hence you do not have to write off yourself. There are many actions we can take to improve the quality of our lives, which would increase the possibility of our total recovery.
· God gives us suffering when we had abandoned certain values which need to be restored again.
In the above example of losing car keys, we can help ourselves find our own keys. Similarly we can find our lost health. Here the transformation is the key. So how do we go about finding our key is the main question.
Tips to handle diseases
· Make sure that your disease does not reduce your love to your people
· Make sure that your disease does not affect your optimism
· Make sure that your disease does not destroy peace
· Make sure that your disease does not kill friendships
· Make sure that your disease does not silence your courage
· Make sure that your disease does not conquer your spirit.
· Don’t lose your optimism and don’t get nasty
· Call upon all your inner strength
· Refuse to go down and give it a tough fight
· Begin to take charge of yourself
· Hold your head high and say to your illness, “I am bigger than you and you cannot defeat me”.
It is our attitude at the beginning of a difficult undertaking, which more than anything else will determine its outcome.
Life is like a game. The game goes on day after day. Some days you win a game and some days you might lose it. But all the same you need to play the games and play them better than yesterday.
Feel you can handle it. Don’t be afraid. Your mental spirit is the key to cope with your problems. Have the attitude and desire to fight back. Patients who go on the offensive have a much greater chance of survival than those who retreat in fear.
Fighting back means taking control and to be smarter than the disease. For this you require information about the disease so that you can become an expert on your illness.
· Read and ask questions.
· Join a support group, meet people who have the same problem as you have and collect information.
· Search for knowledge and immerse yourself in information.
· The more you know about the challenges you face, the greater chance you have to surmount them.
· The greatest discovery of our generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitude of their minds.
· Join your physician in the fight for recovery.
· The most important thing is not to give up. No matter what our setbacks, difficulties or pain, feel you can get through them.
Victor mind set
A victim is one who is body focussed. A victor is one who is mind focussed.
A victim is upset about hair falling. The victor knows bald is beautiful.
A victim goes to see the doctor. The victor consults the doctor.
Preparations for Surgery
If one adheres to natural way of living, there is absolutely no chance of his developing physical ailments warranting any surgery. But none of us had come to live the natural way right from the beginning of our lives and so as we lived along, we would have developed a number of ailments. In the process, some of us may even be in need to undergo surgery for some reason or the other. Following are the preparations we need to make before undergoing any surgery:
· Select a good Hospital for undergoing the surgery
· If possible, also select a reputed surgeon for undergoing the surgery
· Before the surgery, get enough rest and optimize your healing power. May be you can sleep well from few days before the surgery. Avoid getting tensed up
· Do meditation as much as possible. Take to also breathing exercises. Ease your mind and calm your body.
· Listen to music and do whatever to relieve all your stress
· Make sure you take enough of vitamin C during the preparatory days. Don’t opt for vitamin C from tablets, etc. Opt for natural sources like fruits and vegetables. They incidentally would also give you enough of other nutrients. Remember, apart from vitamin C, you also need vitamin A, E, zinc, iron, etc as your curatives.
· If you are smoker, please stop it well in advance. So is the treatment you should give to other habits like drinking.
· Don’t have any fear about the operations or about any pain. Believe your surgery would be very successful and you would come out of your problems. Make positive affirmations to yourself and visualize your good health after the operation
· If you are a believer in God, pray with total faith in Him.
· If you have problems like BP, asthma, diabetes, etc. these would have already surfaced in the pre-surgery tests and the surgeon would have already taken the needed actions. So don’t worry about them.
· Still if you have any concerns, meet your anesthetist as well as your surgeon in advance and discuss out your anxieties and get the needed clarifications. They would be so glad you did that, and you too would be glad of the outcome of the discussions.
· Finally, be a confident and smiling person before you go to the operation table.
The Divine plan
When one door of happiness closes, believe another door opens. But the problem is we often look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.
Believe you have a power to choose. Most people are paralised in their inability to choose. They are paralysed with their conditioning of the past. Health is a choice and we can choose to be healthy. If we choose joy and happiness you can lead a healthy life. These choices we can make only when we know that we have the power to choose.
If you believe in the divine plan you would find one thing would lead to another and put you in touch with the idea that there is a plan for your life. And that is what the disease and subsequent healing is all about. As you watch, your divine plan will continue to unfold. When you start believing in the devine plan, you will have no difficulty to start taking charge of your life, taking charge of your health and being responsible for your feelings. This is the journey which will take you within yourself and help you heal.
So get ready to take an inward journey into yourself
to discover who you are
what you believe in and
what is important to you and
make the choice to realign yourself with values of nature.
When we add these inner resources to the resources of medical science and the Divine plan designed for you, we would reach out for the best.
Wish you good luck !
